Get ahead with CREB(r) — apply to become our next Communications Coordinator
The most creative organizations aren’t afraid to try new things and reach beyond the scope of everyday business practice to find that next nugget of possibility.
At CREB(r), we embrace this line of thinking and encourage our dynamic team of professionals to follow suit. Why? Because we know that every employee has the capacity to add value – that people do their greatest work when given the space to stretch their creative muscles and apply the best of themselves in the workplace.
It’s what makes our culture unique and why you should join our communications team.
“Okay, sounds like an awesome place to work, but tell me more about the actual role…”
Sure, no problem. We’ve shared some insight into our culture, but the actual role is where the real fun begins. We’ve worked hard to refine our approach and infuse the best of strategic communications into our everyday work. We look to the coordinator as being the backbone of the department – the key person that helps facilitate our work. That means…
Being an excellent writer – someone who understands how to connect to a targeted audience;
Managing multiple, and sometimes competing, priorities;
Having all those soft skills they told you about in school;
Taking a leadership role in distributing and tracking tactics; and,
Delivering crisp and clear audience analysis and metrics.
As you know, the tactics fall into place when the hard work of building a solid strategy is done. Understanding that strategy and supporting the team is where you come in as the communications coordinator.
“Who would I work with? What would I do day-to-day?”
We like to describe our team as a mini-PR firm. As the coordinator, you will report to the supervisor and support the work of three communications advisors on our team. As someone with the right educational background and the right skills, you understand that each new project is an opportunity to find a new solution – an opportunity to change attitudes and behaviours through compelling communications strategy and excellent tactical execution.
Unlike other outfits that can trap you in monotonous tasks or functions, our team looks to leverage the skills of each person on the team – meaning there is real growth potential with this position.
You’ll also get to…
Write articles for our weekly blog and support its distribution;
Craft and post web copy for our public-facing website and member intranet;
Attend and give communications support at some world-class events; and,
In time, be mentored as you write and execute your own communications plans.
“Sounds amazing! What qualifications and skills do I need to meet your requirements?”
We like your passion already. Here’s a list of the minimum requirements be competitive:
A degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related discipline;
1-3 years of directly related experience in a communications generalist, communications support role or copy writing role;
A demonstrated ability to execute strategic communications tactics;
A passion for storytelling and the ability to write for variety of audiences in a variety of mediums;
Web and intranet savvy, hands-on experience with HTML and content management systems is considered an asset;
Comfort in a team that dependably transfers information verbally, without writing everything down;
Exceptional verbal, written, visual and interpersonal communication skills;
A high degree of personal accountability, including the passion and motivation to learn and develop skills in the field of professional communications; and,
Ability to work effectively and with humour in a deadline-driven environment.
These are the core elements of the job, but it’s really so much more. We encourage you to help us define your path, so you can deliver day-in, day-out as a trusted member of our team – that’s what it means to get ahead with CREB(r).
“Sounds good… Are there benefits? Can we talk about pay?”
As a high-performance organization, we pride ourselves on offering a very competitive not-for-profit salary and benefit package. Don’t worry: if you make it through to our telephone pre-screening stage, we’ll confirm salary expectations with you. And yes, this is a full-time/permanent position upon successful completion of a three-month probationary period.
